Fiji is home to some of the world’s most exciting diving and snorkeling, with reefs surrounding the islands teeming with wildlife. What better way to fully immerse yourself in these beautifully diverse waters than sleeping right over them? You’ll always be close to the water in these five Fiji overwater bungalows.

One thing that you should know about Fiji overwater bungalows before diving in is that Fijians call these accommodations “Bures.” They are the same exact thing as an overwater bungalow, with thatched roofs, open windows, and large decks to spend your days on.

5 Fiji Overwater Bungalows

Overwater bungalows are less common than you may think in Fiji. There are only five resorts that I could find in all of Fiji that even have overwater bungalows. However, the five in Fiji are just as magical as you would expect an overwater bungalow to be.

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay

Located on mainland Fiji is the Marriott Resort Momi Bay, which is actually pretty unique. You can’t really find any overwater bungalows on mainland Fiji besides this one. It’s probably the most accessible resort to get to on this entire list. Plus, it’s one of the most luxurious.

This resort surrounds a lagoon where you will find the overwater bungalows. The water is bluer and much calmer this way, making it super relaxing. Even though the bungalows don’t look that big from the outside, they feel massive on the inside. It might have something to do with the huge vaulted ceilings.

Each overwater bungalow has a two-person soaking tub, dual shower heads, a seating area, and a large deck that accesses the lagoon. They have two different bungalows to choose from, but the only real difference is their size. What’s included is pretty much the same.

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay is family-friendly, but the overwater bungalows are adult-only. You’ll also find many other adult-only amenities on the resort, like an infinity pool with a gorgeous sunset view. For the ultimate stress-free vacation, add on an all-inclusive package

Koro Sun Resort Fiji

If you want to fully immerse yourself in the Fiji experience, Koro Sun Resort is the best place for you. They are located on an off-shore island in a 160-acre sanctuary, where you are surrounded by Fijian villages, rainforests, and crystal-clear waters, perfect for snorkeling.

The overwater bungalows at this resort are different because they float on the water like a dock. This is the only place I’ve seen this done, and it gets you as close to the water as you can be. Each floating bungalow comes with a kayak and snorkel gear to explore the surrounding marina.

They also have partial overwater bungalows that start on land but hover over the ocean. There are smaller pool bures with a private pool right outside your front door and villas. The villas are family-friendly and can sleep four people. These are basically tiny houses and even come with a complimentary nanny for kids three and under.

You can make your stay at Koro Sun Resort all-inclusive with partial and full meal plans. However, even without the meals, there are tons of inclusions that will make your trip incredible. You can play golf, snorkel, kayak to nearby islands, take a cycling tour, stand-up paddle board, handline fish, and more without paying anything extra.

COMO Laucala Island, Fiji

COMO is located on a massive private island, where you’ll feel like you’re on your own little secluded slice of heaven. Only a few villas are sprinkled throughout the island, and one is a 2-bedroom villa over the water.

The Wai Residence is the most luxurious Fiji overwater bungalow on this list. You will find indoor and outdoor soaking tubs, a private dock for the resort’s boats, and a private pool carved into the cliffside next to your bungalow.

You will feel like you are part of nature during your stay, with the bungalow being made of natural woods, thatched roofs, and an impeccable view of the sunset over the ocean. Your bungalow also comes with its own fully stocked bar, and you can jetski or kayak right from your dock.

The island has so much to do included in your stay that you don’t ever have to leave the island. Hike to a waterfall, visit the farm where you get your food, horseback ride on the beach, or take a sunset cruise. There is also a private landing strip where you can connect to the resort’s plane right at the airport.

Likuliku Lagoon Resort

If you are coming to Fiji to snorkel, Likuliku Lagoon Resort is the place you want to stay. You probably already know that some of the most diverse reefs in the Pacific surround Fiji. This resort is specifically surrounded by a protected marine sanctuary.

Ten overwater bungalows are located right on top of the marine preserve. You can see some of the most beautiful corals and marine life right from your bungalow deck. A few to look out for are small reef sharks, stingrays, and scorpion fish. This area is also a breeding ground for sea turtles, so you are almost certain to see a few of those.

The overwater bungalows are made from building materials that you can find on the island. They have hand-woven thatched roofs, magi-magi-designed woodwork, and bamboo accents. A giant soaking tub is placed in your separate bathroom to perfectly overlook the lagoon while you relax.

Sustainability is at the forefront of Likuliku’s mission. They’ve taken on the responsibility of caring for and growing the marine preserve, eliminating all single-use plastic, and reclaiming their wastewater for irrigation. They are also the owners of Mociu Island, also known as Honeymoon Island, which is a nature preserve that only guests can visit.

Musket Cove Island Resort

Musket Cove has some of the most affordable Fiji overwater bungalows I have ever seen. It may be because they are more partially overwater. But you still get all the same remote vibes with the overwater bungalows being located on a small island in the middle of a lagoon.

Each bungalow can sleep up to four people with one king-sized bed and two single beds. If you plan on visiting with your kids, the king-sized bed is in its own little room. You also get a small kitchenette, a seating area, an outdoor dining table, and a swimming dock below your deck.

Everything you could need on your Fiji vacation is included at Musket Cove. You have three restaurants that you can choose from, which is more than any other inclusive plan here. Also included are a daily snorkeling trip, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, beach volleyball, kids’ activities, and a coral farm you can visit.

Water surrounds the property, with the beach on one side, a lagoon on the other, and its own little lagoon within the resort. Needless to say, there’s plenty to explore via kayak. On top of that, they have 400 acres of garden, hiking trails, and beaches.
