About Idaho

Idaho is a large northwestern U.S. state that borders the states of Washington and Oregon. The landscape is dominated by lakes, rivers, and mountains. Boise is the state’s capital, which is situated along Lewis and Clark’s famed trail. Twenty million visitors come to Boise each year to marvel at its breathtaking vista.

The beauty of Idaho was meant for romance. There are several areas specifically geared to an ideal romantic honeymoon adventure.

Sun Valley

The resort town of Sun Valley is nestled in the Rocky Mountains and has some of the finest skiing and winter sports. It is also the place to get away, relax, and become one with the world. Here, you can enjoy unlimited outdoor adventures along with total serenity. Leave your cell phone and have a picnic instead. Investigate the dozens of trails between Sun Valley and the town of Stanley.

If you find yourself getting too relaxed, try some adrenalin-pumping paragliding above what is one of the world’s most unparalleled landscapes. You can also enjoy great hiking and horseback riding.

The famed Sun Valley Lodge caters to everything romantic. It has fabulous rooms, a spa that offers soothing couple massages, yoga, and restaurants. The Duchin Lounge is the place to visit for a great cocktail. The Lodge’s celebrity suite has hosted Ernest Hemingway, Marylyn Monroe, and Clint Eastwood. It could host you, as well.

Coeur d’Alene Resort

Love is always in the air at the Coeur d’Alene Resort located in Coeur d’Alene. This is one of the world’s high-luxury travel destinations situation by Lake Coeur d’Alene, which has been voted as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. You’ll love the lake as soon as you are able to tear yourself away from the first-class golf course. The resort has a spa, pool, and several top-rated restaurants. The resort can arrange a welcome that includes champagne and chocolate- covered strawberries, a fruit and cheese platter, a hummus platter, and a meat and cheese plate. For a bit of sweets, the pastry chef will send up a selection of chocolate miniatures.

Redfish Lake Lodge

The Redfish Lake Lodge is located six miles from the town of Stanley by the Sawtooth Mountains and the Salmon River. This is like entering the true American frontier. The Redfish Lake Lodge is spread out within the mountains and forest. There is a main lodge, as well as 21 private cabins with a general store to keep you in necessities. All accommodations are near the lake. This is rustic living, without television or phone. The lodge does provide internet. The idea is to get away from modern civilization.

Limbert’s Restaurant inside of the lodge specializes in local fish dishes.

Guests of the Redfish Lake Lodge have access to the marina. Here you can rent a boat or swim in the crystal water. A shuttle boat can take you across the lake for some superior hiking through the Sawtooth Mountains and bring you back later in the day.

The lodge also sponsors romantic sunset cruises. Relax, watch the sun set, and indulge in a charcuterie board from Limbert’s Restaurant.

Best Time to Visit Idaho

Idaho is nature, and nature is busy 365 days a year. There is always something happening. All you need to do is to connect with your favorite activity.

Hot Air Balloon Rides

Celebrate the Annual Balloon Festival on the 4th of July in Teton Valley. Watch the balloons soars over the Grand Tetons and take a ride yourself. What an Idaho honeymoon high!

Salmon Day at Salmon River

This is an unapologetic small-town 4th of July celebration of the town of Salmon. There are parades and fireworks, cowboys and lots of beer, as well as dancing in the street and a demolition derby. If you are near Salmon, join the crowd for some fun.

Summerfest

McCall is a lovely resort town by Payette Lake. The lake is beautiful, but mostly, McCall is known for its live music. For a week in mid-July, the Boise Philharmonic Music Director leads a Summerfest of orchestral music for three consecutive evenings. It’s a gift to music lovers.

Eagle Food & Wine Festival

Idaho isn’t Napa Valley, but it has some wonderful wineries. However, the Eagle Food and Wine Festival in Eagle, usually held in September, offers great wine and food pairings with live entertainment.

Idaho Horror Festival

Just in time for Halloween, the Idaho Horror Film Festival in downtown Boise has three days of horror movies showings – some new, some classics. There are special discussion panels to promote new filmmakers. If you love horror movies, you don’t want to miss this mid-October festival. Between shows, take part in a horror fiction competition and trivia night.

Top Things to do in Idaho

Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruises

When in Coeur d’Alene, enjoy some of the unique cruises on its lake and rivers. Take a sunset dinner cruise or a brunch cruise and enjoy a meal as spectacular as the sights. You can also leave the lake and cruise the Spokane River and St. Joe River. These cruises are filled with three hours of stunning sights. From Thanksgiving through the New Year, take one of the holiday light display tours.

Why not go on a yoga cruise along the lake and enjoy the sights while you calm your mind and body?

Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve

This might be one of the great wonders of the world. These craters are a grand spectacle the likes of which few have not seen before. They consist of huge cracks in the earth which evolved through volcanic activity. The last eruption was 15,000 years ago. It has lava fields, craters, and a total volcanic landscape by the Idaho Snake River Plain.

Begin your visit with a stop at the Robert Limbert Visitor Center in Arco and get all the pertinent information you need.

The first thing you will notice about this Moon Crater Monument is the blackened ground of the lava flow trail. The seven-mile Loop Road leads you through scenic trails. You’ll feel as if you were on the actual moon. It gets surreal in the springtime, when blooming colorful flowers contrast with the black lava flow. Imagine a meadow on the moon.

If you take the Wilderness Trail, you will have seven kilometers of incredible views when you reach the Echo Crater. You can set up camp here and sleep under the stars.

Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park stretches over several states, including Idaho. This is one of the most active geothermal regions anywhere, where you will find the famed geysers and volcanic activities.

Boise Nightlife

Boise has turned into a popular visitor’s destination, and its nightlife has kept up.

The Olympic on 1009 W Main Street is a bar with music and dancing on a nightly basis.

The Spacebar on 200 N. Capitol Blvd. has inexpensive drinks, arcade games, pinball machines, and a weekly film trivia evening.

Press & Pony on 622 W. Idaho St has a huge cocktail menu and is prepared to concoct any cocktail you have in mind. The vibe is easy-going and cool.

The Reef on 105 S. 6th St. strikes a tropical attitude with its island drinks. They have live entertainment several nights each week.

Humpin’ Hannah’s on 621 W. Main Street is the type of old-fashioned bar that is quickly disappearing. Nothing rad happening here. Just dart games, pool tables, and live music. There are usually long lines waiting to get in.

Lava Hot Springs

The hot water springs in the Lava Hot Springs Resort on Highway 30 is one of Idaho’s most unusual facilities. The hot mineral waters are still spewing two and a half million gallons of hot water from an old volcano. The resort has several huge pools and four water slides. The water contains no sulfur, so there is no odor. Depending on which pool you are in, the temperature of the water varies from 104 degrees to 112 degrees.

The resort itself has great shopping, accommodations, dining, and several campsites. Some of the hotels have their own private hot mineral pools for guests. After your enjoyable soak in a hot mineral bath, you can bike and fish, or go snowmobiling and skiing in the winter.

Weather in Idaho

Idaho definitely has four seasons. Each one offers something unique, depending on your interests. Neither the summers nor the winters have extreme temperatures, and the fall and spring are very comfortable and breezy.

There is a lot more snow in the eastern part of the state. Boise gets an average snowfall of 20 inches, while Idaho Falls will see an average of 135 inches of snow. Obviously, the mountains see a lot more snow than cities such as Boise.

Idaho, that gift of nature, will display its colors according to the seasons. The state is blanketed in white during the winter, colorful blooms spring up everywhere in the spring, and nature turns orange and brown in the fall.
