      About Malaysia

Malaysia is one country but has a mix of various cultures, such as Chinese, Indian, Thailand, and Borneo. It is also physically divided into separate regions. The majority of large cities can be found on the west coast, while the east coast is less populated. These diverse cultures result in a rich blend of sites, experiences, and culinary delights. It’s probably no coincidence that Malaysia has some of the best food available anywhere, making your Malaysia honeymoon a foodie’s dream.

In addition to its beaches, Malaysia is known for its exquisite rainforest with a great diversity of flora and fauna. Once you leave the stylish urban areas, you will encounter Malaysia’s bountiful wildlife in its national parks. One of the largest and most interesting of the national parks is Taman Negara, one of nature-lovers’ favorite destinations. It is filled with birds, the Asian elephant, and Malaysia’s own tiger.

Among the unique species calling Taman Negara home is the gaur, an Asian bison. The park is ideal for birdwatching, and you are likely to catch sight of the colorful hornbills. Water buffalo roam the river’s edges, and visitors can usually see them while taking a boat ride down one of the rivers.

If you are touring through Taman Negara, you are likely to encounter the shiny Malayan peacock. The trees are inhabited by the Macaque monkey, who will cheerfully steal your food. If you go deep enough into the rainforest, you will find the barking deer and the sun bear. Plan a tour through the fascinating Taman Negara rainforest as a part of your unforgettable Malaysia honeymoon.

The secret to Taman Negara beauty is that it is relatively unchanged since the time of the dinosaurs. It is quite isolated, a six-hour trip from Kuala Lumpur, but well worth the trip, although there are no luxury accommodations. While a bus will take you from Kuala Lampur to the rainforest, you may prefer a boat ride from Kuala Tembeling up the river. Undoubtedly, the best way to see the rainforest is by taking part in an organized tour.

While honeymooning in Malaysia, consider spending at least part of your time on the island of Penang and its capital city of George Town. When in George Town, check out the wide variety of street art as you stroll through the streets. While you are wandering around, visit one of Penang’s great restaurants. Even the street food is incredibly delicious. The cultural blending of Malaysia results in some tasty tidbits for you to enjoy.

A lot of the fun of being in George Town is how it reflects the multiculturalism of Malaysia. You’ll find Little India and Chinatown, just two of the neighborhoods that are a part of what makes Malaysia so interesting and diverse.

While there, don’t miss the Kek Lok Si Temple. Built over a hundred years ago, this architectural marvel is one of the largest and most interesting Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia.

Some of the best places to honeymoon in Malaysia are:

      Langkawi

Langkawi consists of 140 islands. The largest, Langkawi Island, has tremendously diverse wildlife and some of the best beaches. The water is perfect for diving, and the nightlight is alive. Honeymooners couldn’t ask for a better place to lull and sunbathe on a paradise-like beach and enjoy the spectacular Seven Wells Waterfall. Stay at one of Langkawi’s top five-star hotels.

      Tioman Island

Tioman Island is your tropical Eden and could be your best choice for a Malaysia honeymoon. The entire island is romantic, provides unlimited opportunities for watersports and chic accommodations such as the 5-star Japamala Resort by the beach with a restaurant stretching out over the waters.

      Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia and the urban alternative to the country’s idyllic beaches and rainforests. The architecture, Asia’s largest mall, a huge waterpark, and the National Palace are just a few of the attractions. Kuala Lumpur was designed with romance in mind. Treat yourself to a candlelit dinner at one of the city’s marvelous resorts, then check out Kuala Lumpur’s thriving nightlife. Enjoy a breathtaking sunrise and sunrise at the Sepang Gold Coast. Then explore the rainforest and canopy walkway.

      Best Time to Visit Malaysia

Malaysia loves its colorful festivals. And the best thing is, they are free. Depending on how you plan your trip, you will be able to enjoy the following national celebrations and revels with the natives.

      • Chinese New Year happens between January and February. For Malaysians, this is a vibrant national holiday where everyone celebrates.
      • In June, join the entire country in celebrating the birthday of the King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong. This is another national holiday, and it gets especially festive in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur.
      • The annual Dragon Boat Festival in Penang happens in June and July, and people look forward to this all year long. It begins with the building of the colorful, dragon-head boats. People come from all over Malaysia to watch the race. A part of this tradition is to indulge in lots of specially prepared rice dumplings. The festivities celebrate a protest against government corruption.
      • August 31 is Malaysia’s Independence Day. Like our own 4th of July, expect parades and fireworks.
      • Christmas is as magical in Malaysia as it is everywhere else. In December, large cities such as Kuala Lumpur are ablaze with lights and seasonal decorations. Bring your camera.

Top Things to do in Malaysia

With all of Malaysia’s different cultures and landscapes vying for attention, there is no end of activities for you to enjoy during your Malaysia honeymoon. Whether you are in a sophisticated urban area, in the jungle, or by the beach, you’ll be making memories for a lifetime.

Kuala Lumpur – Petronas Twin Towers

You will surely visit Malaysia’s capital. Don’t miss these Towers that used to be the tallest building on earth. They have been supplanted by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, but they are still stunning. The Towers have a mall, art gallery, and science exhibitions. You will also find a concert hall. Go up to the 86th-floor observation deck for its breathtaking view.  Visit the park next to the Towers for a stroll.

      George Town

The largest city in Penang, George Town, is worth exploring. George Town is modern while staying true to its British colonial heritage. There is a large Chinese influence not only in the delicious food, said to be the finest in Malaysia, but the old Chinese mansions and boutiques. A Feng Shui mansion worth seeing is the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, known for its exquisite Chinese design. This is one of only three Chinese manors in existence outside of China.

While in George Town, don’t miss Fort Cornwallis, with its prison cells, chapel, and its harbor light.

      Langkawi Cable Car in Langkawi

If you visit scenic Langkawi, you cannot miss the SkyCab as it takes its passengers on a heart-stopping thrill-ride above the jungle. The ride begins in the Oriental Village and soars skyward from there. The incredible 360-degree view at the top is one-of-a-kind. The vista includes not only Langkawi, but a great deal of southern Thailand.

      Sunway Lagoon Theme Park

Located in the city of Kuala Lumpur is a large theme park. You may be a mature married couple, but that’s no reason you can’t have some fun and act like a kid again. Check out:

      • Lake Kariba is a fun lake, but it is usually packed with children, so you may want to avoid it.
      • The Wave Pool is for lazing, and not doing anything. Sounds like a plan.
      • The Zulu Walk has an eatery and a walkway to take you to the Wildlife Park.
      • The Wildlife Park is filled with animals that you can pet, as well as an aviary.
      • The Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon has water slides. Both adults and children enjoy them.
      • You will find archery target shooting near the Lost Lagoon.
      • Paddleboat or kayak ride in the Lake at the Lagoon.

      Batu Caves

Take the No. 11D bus out of Kuala Lumpur. A mere 13 km north, you will find the fascinating, 400 million years old Batu Caves. There are tours to these limestone caves, as well. The first cave, which you reach after climbing 272 steps, is a genuine temple with a vaulted ceiling and a massive gold statue. The steps themselves are filled with macaques more interested in taking your food than prayers.

The Dark Cave requires a guide and is filled with bats and rare spiders. And some crawling is required.

The Art Gallery Cave has Hindu paintings and carvings.

      Weather in Malaysia

Basically, there are two major seasons you need to consider for you Malaysia honeymoon, the rainy season and the dry season. The temperature remains reasonably even at 30 degrees Celsius. The temperature in the Cameron Highlands is somewhat lower, around 25 degrees Celsius; it can even get colder than that.

The capital city of Kuala Lumpur is tropical in nature. There is lots of rain, especially in April, October, and November. The summer months, June through August, tend to be drier. The humidity is highest in September and November.

Penang is dry from December through March. It can become quite hot, however. September and October have the most rain.
