Kihavah Villas
Begin Your Journey on Uncovering the Mesmerizing Oceanic Secrets
The Maldives luxury resort island of Anantara Kihavah and its pure white sands rise up from the ocean like a mirage, surrounded by nothing but a turquoise lagoon that melts into sapphire blue.
This was where Arab merchants sailing to the Far East took refuge for centuries; a lush paradise blessed by coconut, papaya, and mango trees. The seafarers were also attracted by the abundance of the ocean surrounding the island, exploring the archipelago through the stars to the archipelago, where a prehistoric volcano sank back into the oceans, leaving blooming corals within a house reef and a wealth of lagoon fish.
The design pays homage to the old seafarers, fusing indigenous materials with the Indian Ocean, Arab and Portuguese motifs. Enjoy the luxury of space in your beach villa or water villa in your private pool. Snorkeling with mantas and sea turtles at Hawksbill. Stargaze into the evening. Dine at this enchanting sanctuary on a deserted sandbank or under the ocean’s crust.

About Maldives
Nothing can top a Maldives honeymoon. Over-the-water bungalows, colorful marine life, and the bluest water on earth are only the beginning. When you are in the Maldives, you have plenty of different budget options for accommodations and activities. There is no such thing as a bad day in the Maldives. Nature has blessed the Maldives with 26 fabulous atolls and 1,000 coral islands, and the whitest beaches anywhere.
The Maldives is famous for its ubiquitous over-the-water bungalows. Look down through the glass floor and just watch the fish. Or step off your balcony and land in the warmest, clearest water imaginable. It’s that incredible. The fabulous villas have a wide price range, so you will be able to find one, regardless of your budget.
Get to know the sharks in the southern coral reefs. Here you can swim alongside them. Swimming with the shark is one of the main attractions of the Maldives. One of the best places to make friends with one of Jaws’ cousins is the South Ari Atoll. This is where you are most likely to see sharks throughout the year. The LUX* South Ari Atoll Resort & Villas is an excellent luxury resort for your stay. Not only are you at a first-class dive site, but the resort is also the closest to the South Ari Atoll marine park. Which means you can catch the first boat out when sharks have been sighted. You’ll be chasing down Jaws instead of the other way around.
In addition to diving, the Maldives has some fantastic surfing. Some of the areas are private, so it is recommended that for the best surfing, you stay at a resort with its own surf breaks. The water will be less crowded. One such resort is the Cinnamon Dhnoveli. A luxury resort with its own surfing is the Niyama Private Islands. Don’t feel like surfing? The elegant Niyama has the only underwater nightclub in existence. And one of the few actual nightclubs in the Maldives.
More About The Maldives
The Maldives is fairly isolated. That is part of its charm. The collection of 26 atolls is located 700 kilometers from the Asian mainland in the Indian Ocean. Atolls are a combination of sand bars and live reefs. Interestingly, 99 percent of the Maldives is not land but pure, clear water.
All that water provides the perfect background for watersports. Visitors should take advantage of the whale and dolphin watching tours. While snorkeling and diving, you will be surrounded by colorful snappers, yellow boxfish, and sea turtles. The colorful fish enjoy the Maldives as much as the people do. Don’t hesitate to turn the ocean into your own adventure with jet skiing, kayaking, wakeboarding, flyboarding, and parasailing.
When arriving in Male, the country’s capital, some visitors do a layover from Sri Lanka. It will likely take you 24 hours to get to the Maldives from the US. A good choice of layovers would be Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Both airports have wonderful lounges, excellent dining, and first-class shopping to while away the time. The Abu Dhabi airport even has bed/sleep pods if you want to take a nap.
Once you – finally – arrive in Male, a seaplane or ferry will take you to your resort destination. If you wish to spend some time in Male, there are plenty of hotels, such as the Hard Rock Hotel in the Emboodhoo Lagoon and a short boat ride from the airport. Be sure and dress conservatively when you explore Male, with shoulders covered and wearing slacks instead of shorts.
The Maldives’ original settlers came from India almost 2,000 years ago. Over time, Islam became the major religion. That means that the dress code and behavior in this paradise lean toward the conservative.
You cannot bring alcohol into the country, but it is available in the tourist resorts. All resorts offer a package deal that includes alcohol but beware of drunken behavior. Check with your resort what the preferred beachwear is. Some places frown on bikinis.
No doubt the Maldives will be one of the most special places you will ever visit. A lot of that has to do with the unique sand. A part of Maldives’ magic is the glowing sand phenomenon called bioluminescence. This makes the sand glow in the dark in the most spectacular fashion. The best time to experience this almost eerie wonder is from June through October. That is when nature really puts on a light show.
For the best bioluminescence beaches, visit the Vaadhoo Island, which can become strangely aglow. Other excellent beaches are the beach at Soneva Fushi and Hulhumale. For the ultimate romantic Maldives honeymoon, enjoy a candlelit dinner at the beach in the glowing sand.
Best Time to Visit Maldives
The best time to honeymoon in the Maldives is from December to April, which is the summer season. This is the time when the island experiences dry weather with very little or no rainfall. This makes it the ideal time to holiday in the islands and is usually crowded with tourists around these months every year.
When it is the peak summer season, like towards the end of April, it is essentially the best time to enjoy the water sports as well and have an adventurous spark in your honeymoon.
While the Maldives is pure enchantment, it has a cultural history and festivals worth discovering.
National Day of the Maldives
This National Day celebrates the Maldivian 16th-century victory over Portugal. It happens in the spring, in accordance with the first day of the month of Rabee-ul-Awwal. Like an American Fourth of July, the Maldives hold military parades and fireworks.
Independence Day of the Maldives 26th July
The Maldives’ second Independence Day signifies their freedom from British rule in 1887. Again, there are parades and recitals by customed school children.
Republic Day
Republic Day is celebrated on November 11th to commemorate the Maldives becoming a republic in 1968. Parades and street performances are combined with eating such wonderful local treats such as coconut cake, rice cake, or fish-filled pancakes.
Eid Ul Adha
Eid Ul Adha is an important Muslim holiday celebrated for three days at the end of July. There are celebrations in the mosques, then there are special dinners. Many restaurants serve tasty Eid Ul Adha dinners. Unique to the Maldives, Eid U1 Adha also has street festivals and dancing in local costumes. Like American football, the Maldives has a competitive game called bai Bala that people enjoy for the holiday.
The Prophet’s Birthday
This celebrates the birthday of Prophet Muhammad during Rabee ul-Awwal, the third month of the lunar calendar, which falls somewhere between the end of October and November. This takes on the air of a carnival, with decorations and street processions. Stories of the prophet are told in all communities. This is a splendid carnival to watch.
Top Things to do in Maldives
Island Hopping
Honeymoon couples can hardly find any other place in the world that would provide them the luxury of island hopping sprees. The Maldives is perhaps the only place in the world where honeymoon couples can spend each day on a brand new island with beautiful resorts.
Dhoni Ride
One of the most romantic experiences on this island’s honeymoon destination would be to take a dhoni ride. This is a cruise boat, made locally with palm timber and coconut, affording you an exquisite time together with stunning views all day.
Couple Spa
What makes a couple of spas unique for honeymooners is being in the same room, experiencing the healing techniques together and while enjoying some of the most stunning views of the coral reefs and the sea.
Sailing the Maldives
Enjoy some of the best catamaran tours through the Maldives on your Maldives honeymoon. Do some island hopping, dive and snorkel as much as you want, and get to know the local dolphins. Sit back and revel in the romantic sunsets.
Professional Photo Tours
When nature is all dressed up in its best fineries, a selfie just won’t do. Create some genuine memories (and some envy) by touring the highlights of the Maldives with a Professional Photography Tour. These can include shots by the beach, a tour through Male, or at any of the Maldives’ hidden gems. Create forever memories of your Maldives honeymoon.
Male Tours
Male is located near the Maldives airport. If you arrive early for your flight back home, it is a perfect opportunity to spend a few hours on a tour of Male. Pick up some souvenirs, visit the Presidential Old Palace, the National Museum, which is filled with much historical artifacts, and the Grand Friday mosque. It’s a lovely overview of the Maldives culture and history.
Hulhumale Island
A must-visit Maldives island is the Hulhumale Island. The watersports are unmatched, and accommodations are available for every budget. Here, you’ll find some outstanding architecture, such as the National Sports Complex Maldives, a modern complex with hotel, shops, and convention hall.
There are many dining options on Hulhumale. Don’t miss the fresh seafood dishes at the Manhattan Fish Market. You’ll also find plenty of Indian and Thai cuisine.
Enjoy an exquisite Sandbank and Sunset Cruise which takes you snorkeling with the sea turtles and tropical fish before sailing off into the sunset. Definitely filled with romance.
Parasailing
The Maldives is made for extreme watersports such as parasailing. This is bound to add some excitement and spice to your Maldives honeymoon. When you parasail, you are attached to a parachute, which is attached to a boat. As the boat soars through the water, you soar high up in the air. This is a Maldives natural high.
As a warning, be careful parasailing during the monsoon season of May to October, when the wind may take you down.
The ultimate Maldives parasailing sites are Reethi Beach on the Baa Atoll, Cocoon Beach located on Ookolhufinolhu Island, and Finolhu Beach on the Baa Atoll. Finolhu Beach just happens to be a spectacular beach lined with colorful tropical plants.
The Finest in Dining
Romance and fine dining are a classic part of any honeymoon. At one of the Maldives’ best restaurants, they take it a step further. Ba’theli is the world’s only gourmet restaurant on a boat out on a lagoon located on Milaidhoo Island. Here, dinners are actually encouraged to go barefoot through the sand.
Enjoy some classic Maldivian cooking.
Weather in Maldives
The Maldives is perfection, and so is the year-round weather. A hot tropical climate prevails all year in the Maldives. There is rarely a drop in the temperature below 25°C (77°F).
Monsoons occur twice in the Southwest from May to October and in the northwest from November to April.
