About Michigan

Michigan is located in the Great Lakes area of the US. The region, from its colorful cliffs highlighting the largest of the Great Lakes, there is a great deal of natural beauty to be discovered here. The stunning shoreline sets the tone with 129 lighthouses, maritime museums, and several shipwrecks.

Detroit is the capital of Michigan. This historic city on the Detroit River contains plenty of culture and opportunities for romance. Don’t miss the iconic Motown Museum and learn about the greatest R&B legends of our time. This is where music got its soul.

The Detroit Historical Museum recreates scenes from Detroit during the 1840s, 1870s, and the turn of the century. Step into the past and experience the city as our ancestors did. The museum hails 100 years of automotive history and Michigan history in general. Whether visitors are looking for the Kid Rock Music Lab or the Detroit Underground Railroad, the museum covers a wide range of historical interests.

Detroit also has a romantic nightlife. The Baker’s Keyboard Lounge is the world’s oldest jazz club. Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole entertained here. Enjoy a romantic evening of good music and excellent booze.

Consider a date night at the Valentine Distilling, with its cocktail lounge and tasting room. This distillery goes beyond taste testing. Mixologists will discuss the art of the cocktail while you nibble on some tapas.

Outside of Detroit, much of Michigan is wilderness waiting to be explored. Consider Isle Royale National Park, which can only be accessed by boat, ferry, or seaplane. This is a special destination for anyone who appreciates raw, rugged, breathtaking nature, and a bit of romantic solitude on your Michigan honeymoon

There are no crowds here, so you can canoe, kayak, and hike to your heart’s content without encountering too many people. Cars are also not permitted. Peace, quiet, and tranquility rule on Isle Royale. Accommodations and two restaurants are available at the Rock Harbor Lodge. Otherwise, there are lots of camping options.

A don’t-miss romantic option in Michigan is Mackinac Island, which is also accessed by ferry. Mackinac Island specializes in providing relaxation, but there is also plenty to do. Take romantic horse-drawn carriage rides during the day. Bike along the shore. Rent a kayak and get out on the water. Sample their famous fudge. There is swimming, but the water can be quite cool. Enjoy the many restaurants, such as the Seabiscuit Café for breakfast. The Watercolor Café does great sandwiches for lunch and has watercolor classes in the evening. For old-fashioned, homecooked dinners, try the Yankee Rebel Tavern for dinner.

From romantic sunset cruises to visiting the haunts of Mackinac, get to know this fascinating island by joining a variety of guided tours.
