About North Carolina

North Carolina is one of the original 13 states. It is located in the midst of the Atlantic Ocean coastline, with Raleigh as the state capital. Much of North Carolina’s eastern region has retained much of its colonial style, while the state’s major cities, Charlotte and Raleigh, are bustling metropolises.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are also an innate part of the landscape. From the small towns that will remind you of the delightful fictional town of Mayberry to wild streams and glorious sunsets, the Blue Ridge Mountains are an abundance of nature’s gifts. Dining ranges from 5-star wonders to old-fashioned diners. Shopping includes treasures you can only find in these mountains And there is more.

Nestled in-between the delightful towns and mountains is the incredible Biltmore Estate in Asheville, built by George Vanderbilt. This French Renaissance castle has 250 rooms, a picture-perfect garden, and a popular winery.

Take a self-guided tour of this mansion with its incomparable art and antique collection. The beautiful gardens are meant for a romantic stroll and will have you feeling like a genuine Vanderbilt. The Biltmore Antler Hill Village, which is a part of the estate, has a winery, a working farm, restaurants, and shopping. You have a choice of two hotels on this property for an elongated stay. Should you visit during the holiday season, you can become a part of the Biltmore Christmas spectacular, which includes 55 decorated trees. It’s your North Carolina honeymoon. Live it up like a Vanderbilt.

When living like a Vanderbilt starts to get old, take advantage of the most stunning hiking opportunity in North Carolina, the Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock Park. The rock, which soars 1,200 ft up into the sky, is a hiker’s paradise that rewards with a 75-mile view across the mountains. Beginners can take rock climbing lessons here and fuel up at the Old Rock Café. This is the most popular attraction in North Carolina.

Another popular destination is Pearson’s Falls and Glen off Highway 76 which attracts more than 20,000 visitors annually. This is a large botanical reserve with an abundance of plants, hiking trails, and a marvelous waterfall. Perfect for a romantic picnic.

Visiting Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina, is a must. It is part of the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel “triangle.” Each city is within 30 minutes of each other and can be enjoyed during one stay. If you love beer, Raleigh has a truly superior craft beer scene. One hundred and twenty breweries are waiting to delight you. Beer lovers can devote an entire day to experimenting the various beers. Don’t want to wander around downtown? Come to the Raleigh Beer Garden, get comfortable, and sample some (not all!) of its 365 on-tap beers.

Rumor has it that bluegrass originated in North Carolina. Raleigh is certainly the place to experience it. The downtown bars are filled with bluegrass. More importantly, it hosts the World of Bluegrass each September. This is where bluegrass fans from all around the world meet and enjoy the rhythm.

Old Salem

Like visiting the city of Salem up north, visiting Old Salem in Winston-Salem is another walk through history. Spend some time walking through the past, when persecuted citizens of what is now Czechoslovakia settled here in search of religious freedom. Old Salem is now a living history museum with costumed actors reenacting the 18th-century way of life and demonstrating the cooking and gardening ways of our ancestors. There are pottery demonstrations, sewing lessons, and an old apothecary shop.
