Activities at Sandals Emerald Bay
While you are enjoying the Sandals Emerald Bay honeymoon of your dreams, there are a few fun and unexpected day trips to Outer Exuma that will make your stay unforgettable.
Feed the Pigs
Big Major Cay is a nearby small island that is inhabited only by pigs. Yes, the snouted, four-legged kind. These pigs delight in human company. They will swim to your boat, swim with you in the water, and all they ask in return is a share of your lunch. It sounds like a fair deal. It is unknown how these pigs got to the island, but they certainly are happy to see some two-legged friends. Call Exuma Water Sports for more information at 1 242-357-0770.
Thunderball Grotto
A day trip to Thunderball Grotto is the ultimate day trip. This is where they filmed James Bond’s Thunderball. The grotto is an underwater cave by Exuma Cays just waiting to be explored. Contact Bahamas Air Tours Day Trips at 1 786-289-8977 for more information.
This grotto is a cave system that lies beneath the waters. It is filled with marine life, coral, and some hidden nooks that divers love. The grotto looks fairly simple on the outside. Once you get inside, however, you can see why it was chosen as the set for the Bond film. The entrance is almost hidden, and there are tunnels and gaps to explore once you are inside and swimming alongside the fish. Other movies have been shot here, as well, and it’s a popular place frequently visited by celebrities who have their own private island here – like Oprah and Johnny Depp.
Explore Exuma on an ATV. Begin at the St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, then roar on to what was the first Bahamian prison. Leave the prison to explore the cave by Rolleville and learn about the role pirates played in Bahama’s history.
This is where pirates hid their treasure. You can turn this into a real treasure hunt. Your last stop is fabulous Cocoplum Beach. Call Island Routes at 1-877-280-8580 for more information.
