About Texas
Texas has one of the most colorful histories of any U.S. state. For a time, it was occupied by several Indian tribes. Around the 16th century, it was colonized by Spaniards, who weren’t all that interested in Texas and allowed the French in. Next-door Mexico looked much more promising. Still, Spain erected missions and towns to “civilize” Texas.
Soon, the Americans in Texas rebelled, tossed out the Spaniards, and become an independent Republic. This independence was achieved following the famed battle of the Alamo, with first Houston, then Austin, as the state capital.
If Texas has a reason (and there are many) to stand proud, it is the Alamo, which fairly accurately sums up the soul of Texas. This famed battle for independence was fought by 150 Texans, including Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett, against an onslaught of thousands of Mexico’s Santa Anna’s soldiers. Texas is so diverse; it goes back to Renaissance times. For fifty years, the Renaissance Festival has brought great food and medieval entertainment to the town of Todd Mission, located fifty miles outside of Houston. The festival continues for eight weekends starting with the beginning of October. Close to half a million visitors come here to celebrate. There is much drinking at wine tastings, as well as scotch, bourbon, tequila, and rum tasting. High tea is available, as well. Several seasonal fests, such as Oktoberfest, All Hallows Eves, and a Celtic Christmas come to life. As a salute to Henry VIII, up to 70,000 turkey legs are eaten.
There are daily medieval performances, all in period costumes, from royals to knights to beggars. There are a lot of shops carrying arts and crafts and nightly fireworks at dusk.

This annual Christmas event has taken place in Lubbock for almost 30 years. Michael Murphy combined the love of cowboys and Christmas into his annual tour which takes place in Lubbock the first week of December at the Cactus Theater. Enjoy the cowboy culture during the holidays.

There were 55 of them. Visits to casinos and the home of mobsters are included. These were tough mobsters. When Al Capone tried to take over Galveston, they had him booted out within a week.

east is humid. The Texas panhandle can get very cold with an annual average of 25 inches of snow.
The summers in Central Texas can range from semi-arid to humid. But the winters here are mild. The average yearly rainfall is about 21 inches.
East Texas can expect up to 60 inches of rain, especially during April, May, and June. Thunderstorms and hurricanes happen frequently, especially in the spring.
Summers in South Texas are hot and dry without much rain.
