If you are planning an exotic, romantic getaway for your honeymoon, look no further than the United Arab Emirates (“UAE”). Your honeymoon is meant to be a time to explore each other and the world around you. And there is no more interesting place to visit than the UAE. The UAE is a collection of seven Arab territories called emirates that provide you with the ultimate in choices of activities. The two major destinations are Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Dubai is the crown jewel of the UAE. It offers unparalleled luxury and opulence. In Dubai, you are king and queen and treated like royalty. You can create an extravagant or budget honeymoon in Dubai while still enjoying all it has to offer. Here is where the memories of a lifetime are created. Enjoy dinner at the top of Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper. Enjoy a romantic stroll through the Miracle Garden, the world largest garden with 50 million flowers and 250 million plants. Dubai has one of the world’s few seven-star hotels, the Burj Al Arab. It is also one of the world’s tallest hotels. The skyscrapers in Dubai are straight out of a futuristic sci-fi movie, except these are real.
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE. Here, the level of luxury cannot even be defined, although it is sometimes be overshadowed by Dubai. This makes Abu Dhabi the more affordable choice between the two major emirates.
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is one of the world’s largest mosques, with 82 domes made of colored marble. The carpets, columns and walls create a harmony of hues that turn the structure into a work of art.
The Emirates Palace qualifies as the world’s most opulent hotel, with over 100 domes gilded in gold. The Palace is all about gold, from a vending machine that delivers gold bricks to the Cafe that serves cappuccino and ice cream with gold flakes. The interior of the hotel is designed in genuine gold and crystal. If staying at the Emirates Palace is not within your budget, see the hotel on one of its tours and enjoy a gastronomical delight in one of its restaurants. Don’t miss the beach, where you can enjoy a camel ride along the shore.

About UAE
The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven separate emirates by the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It was created in 1971 when seven small desert kingdoms combined into one powerhouse. As discussed, two of the emirates are the beyond-belief luxurious Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Both are major trading areas and vacation destinations.
The various emirates offer every type of environment imaginable, from deserts, mountains, and seashores with pure, unspoiled beaches. Here, visitors will encounter ancient traditions and the most modern of architecture and technology. A major portion of the UAE consists of deserts, and most of its people live in the cities.
All the UAE is a safe honeymoon destination.. However, visitors should be cautious about too much public display of affection. If it involves a same-sex couple, it will most definitely be frowned upon. While we are discussing frowns, not only are drug laws severe, certain western prescription drugs, such as codeine, are also considered illegal unless you carry a copy of your prescription with you.
Alcohol laws are also fairly restrictive in the UAE. You can get a drink in westernized hotels, restaurants, and some clubs. You will not be able to purchase alcohol in a shop. For a toast in your hotel room, pick up a bottle of your favorite libation at the airport. You will not be able to drink in public. That means no beer or champagne at the beach.
While Dubai and Abu Dhabi invariably come to mind with the mention of the UAE, the other five emirates have plenty of their own to offer and may actually be more to your liking.
Ras Al Khaimah is located north of Dubai. It offers luxury, but at a more affordable price than the better-known Dubai. Ras Al Khaimah is a desert oasis filled with luxury resorts, where you can spend time enjoying a cool dip in the pool or a nice cocktail. There are also dunes to explore and Bedouin camps in which to stay and experience a thousand years of Bedouin living – except they will feed you a scrumptious barbeque and entertain you with a belly dancer.
Sharjah lacks the glitz of some of the other emirates. Here you will find an abundance of museums and archaeological digs. Things move at a slower pace in Sharjah. Check out the colorful souks, the Sharjah Arts Museum, and the Sharjah Museum of Islamic civilization. This is the place to learn all about Arabic culture and history.
Visiting Ajman is cheating the legal way. Ajman is a modern city, with all the modern conveniences, but it is much cheaper than nearby Dubai. You can stay here and enjoy all the offerings of Dubai in an easy half-hour commute. In Ajman, you will find one of the largest boat-building yards in the world, and it’s worth a visit. By staying in Ajman, you’ll save lots of money for your new life together.
Ajman has some breathtaking beaches. The weather and water during the winter months are sheer perfection. The dolphins that hang out here seem to agree.
Umm Al-Quwain is located between Ras-Al-Khaimah and Ajman. It is probably the most undiscovered of the emirates. There are no high rises or luxury resorts here. Just a paradisial beachfront with groups of playful flamingoes making themselves at home. Umm Al-Quwain is all about relaxation. It is a favorite destination for bird watching. While they may lack the glitz of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, there are some lovely hotels and restaurants here.
Fujairah is not well-explored yet and might work best as a day trip from Dubai. There are great beaches for snorkeling and diving, old fortresses, and mountains. You will find the UAE’s oldest mosque, Al-Bidyah Mosque, in Fujairah. Visitors are welcome, but they must be properly dressed in acceptable hair covering.
Here, you will also find the rugged Hajar Mountains, a favorite destination for hiking and camping. You can get to Fujairah by bus from Dubai in two hours.
Best Time to Visit UAE
The UAE has a wide mix of cultures, and these are best experienced through their holidays and other festivals. Your best time for your UAE honeymoon may include a festival that is of special interest to you.
The UAE Awafi Festival is one of the most popular UAE festivals and takes place in Ras Al-Khaimah in December and January. The sand dune races happen on Fridays, and prizes are awarded to the winner. Tens of thousands of enthusiasts watch or participate in a series of dune races using 4-wheelers. Anyone can enter the competition. There is dancing, food, and coffee.
National Day Festival is celebrated on December 2nd to remember the union of the six emirates into one state. National monuments are open to the public. Dubai and Abu Dhabi hold special celebrations. It’s the Arabian 4th of July.
Dubai Shopping Festival happens every December through January. Only in Dubai could shopping be turned into a holiday. But this is the time of year all shopping outlets significantly reduced the price of their merchandise. People worldwide flock to Dubai for the bargains. To celebrate this retail therapy, there are concerts and fireworks.
Dubai World Cup – if you are into horses, this Dubai horse race at the Meydan Racecourse is one of the wealthiest. It takes place at the end of March.
The Dubai Desert Classic is the golfing event in the UAE. It happens in Dubai at the end of January. All the top golfers are here for the incredible prize of $3 million.
Top Things to do in UAE
Desert Safari in Dubai
When you are spending your UAE honeymoon in glitzy and sophisticated Dubai, you can almost forget you are in an ancient desert. As a reminder, take a desert safari. Leave the skyscrapers behind and ride the dunes in a jeep or a camel. There is an eerie beauty in the desert you will remember for a lifetime. Spend a romantic evening under the stars.
Dubai Aquarium
Not only is the Dubai Aquarium one of the largest aquariums in the world, it is an adventure like no other. You can pay the aquarium a standard visit and enjoy the fish. However, you can also visit this underwater zoo in a glass-bottomed boat, feed the fish, and enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour.
Abu Dhabi Al Ain Oasis
It gets hot in Abu Dhabi. When you begin to yearn for some shade, visit the refreshing green oasis in Al Ain south of the city. There are shady palm plantations with more than three acres of 147,000 palm trees. Take a stroll through the tranquility and cool air. Although you are still in the desert, the oasis has an old underground irrigation system that channels water where needed. This oasis is pure lush greenery in the middle of all that sand.
Ras Al Khaimah
Here you will find the Suwaidi Pearls Farm, where the Gulf Oyster Pearl is cultivated. It comes from oysters from a nearby creek in Al Rams. The area has been involved in pearl cultivation for hundreds of years.
Sharjah
Located by the Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah is the Al Noor Mosque. It’s a breathtaking building with domes and towers. It was one of the first mosques to allow non-Muslims inside. They provide tours and lectures about the Muslim culture and history.
Ajman
Can it get any more romantic than a sunrise balloon ride? Enjoy a gourmet breakfast and just absorb the incredible vista below. For a special romantic surprise, book your tour on a Tuesday. That is when you will get serenaded by a violinist. Who needs earth when you are floating in the sky?
Umm Al Quwain
Umm Al Quwain is small, but it has some fascinating history. Visit the Umm Al Quwain National Museum, which is located within an old fort. The ruling family used to live here, and you can view the Sheikh and Sheikhah’s private rooms, as well as their jewelry and some belongings. The museum contains some interesting local artifacts from Ed Dur, which is known to be one of the critical lost cities of Arabia. Outside of the museum, many structures have been maintained for over 150 years. It’s a wonderful stroll back in time.
Weather in UAE
All the UAE is a desert. The summers are hot with some heavy humidity from the Persian Gulf. There is almost no rain anywhere. There may be a few showers (rarely more than a total of four inches) during the winter months. The heat is relentless, even in the Al Hajar Mountains. During the winter, the peak of the Al Hajar Mountains does get a bit cooler.
The winter months in the UAE experience temperatures up to 80 degrees, which can dip into the mid-60s at night. These temperatures are as comfortable as it will get in the UAE.
Summers in the UAE can be fry-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk brutal, reaching between 110 and 118 degrees. Still, there are some good reasons to visit. Accommodations in Dubai can be sky high. The price drops considerably during the summer months. It’s the opportunity to live your dream on a budget and indulge in some extravagant spa time, which some hotels toss in for free as an incentive to come. In Dubai, they have facials with real gold. With these types of luxuries, let the sun blaze; you’re as comfortable as it can get.
Summer would be the time to spend some time by the pool and spoil body and soul.
