About West Virginia
West Virginia borders the eastern seaboard and is known as the Mountain State. With elevations stretching 1,500 to the sky, it has the highest mountains east of the Mississippi River. It used to be a part of the State of Virginia but split away to form its own state when Virginia succeeded from the Union (One of West Virginia’s mottos is “Mountaineers are always free.”).
