About Wisconsin

The State of Wisconsin was initially settled by the French. Thanks to a thriving fur trade, the British quickly moved north and settled in the region. Its neighbor Minnesota is modestly known as the land of 10,000 lakes. By comparison, Wisconsin has more than 15,000 lakes, all created by melting glaciers.

Dairy farmers and cheesemakers have been Wisconsin’s major economic force. As a matter of fact, Wisconsin is the Swiss Cheese capitol of the world. The first dairy school was established here to teach proper dairy techniques such as testing the butterfat content of milk. More than a billion dairy cows produce more than three billion gallons of milk each year. In addition to dairy, Wisconsin is also known as the “Bratwurst capital of the world.”

The city of Madison is Wisconsin’s capital.

Sport’s fans may be interested to learn that Green Bay is Wisconsin’s oldest city. As for movie fans, the great director Orson Welles is from Kenosha. And famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright also hails from here.

There are dozens of secluded, romantic cabins throughout Wisconsin. One of the more interesting retreats is the Namekagon Waters Retreat, where you are surrounded by nothing but beautiful nature and the Namekagon River. This private area has luxury yurts (tents)
for glamorous outdoor glamping with plenty of opportunities for hiking and skiing. These yurts come with a sauna, fireplace, electricity, hardwood floors, and massages. Camping was never this glamorous. Bring some champagne and snuggle up in a huge tent in front of a fireplace. The 40-acre retreat is a private get-away and a year-round destination.

You can definitely pursue romance on your Wisconsin honeymoon. Sundara Inn and Spa in Wisconsin Dells has romantic villas with fireplaces, spa treatments, a steam room, and healthy dining. Sundara Inn is Wi-Fi-free, so you will need to find something to do besides checking Facebook (we make no suggestions). The resort is close to state parks with swimming, boating, and hiking, as well as the nearby Wollesheim Winery, where you can sample their wines with local cheeses.

Pinehurst Inn in Bayfield begins the day with a three-course breakfast. Then the real fun begins. Bayfield is renowned for its winter activities, such as skiing at Mt. Ashwabay or a four-hour dog sledding adventure through the snow with a nice hot lunch to keep you warm and snuggly.

Lake Geneva

Your entire Wisconsin honeymoon could be summed up in five words: the Abbey Resort in Fontana. This is the only full-service 90-acre resort by the lake, and you could spend your entire honeymoon here. From dining with a view of Lake Geneva to a full-service luxury spa, the Abbey Resort fills your needs. Stroll along the lake or remain inside the resort and take in a movie in their cinema. Rent a bike to explore the area or a boat to tour the lake. Lake Geneva was created for romance.
